Black Jack is a 10 month old male black lab mix. He was brought to us by his owner. Someone in the family could not walk without a cain and Black Jack was getting in the way.
Chester is a 1 1/2 year old male cattle dog mix. Someone saw Chester and another dog being kicked out of a car behind Thousand Oaks Subdivision on Dobbi9n Huffsmith in Magnolia.. When AAR raised the funds Chester was taken to the vet and had xrays showing his femoral head was broken away from his long femur bone. He had surgery to remove the femur head, like some dogs that have hip displasia they remove the femur head bone. So eventually all the ligaments and tissue will grow around the long femur bone to support it.
We have had 2 Vet opinions, they both say Black Jacks leg needs to be amputated. He had an old injury that caused damage to the growth plate of his Radius and Ulna bone and has caused abnormal alignment of the elbow joint. One bone is still growing while the other bone has stopped growing. He also has arthritis present in his joints. He eventually will be in more pain over the months and the arthritis will get worse. We believe as hyper as he is and full of energy he will ajust fine.
I had my surgery 11-23-09 and my missing leg does not slow me down much. I adapted quickly, I am able to run and play with my friends.
I am back at the shelter now doing just fine. I still walk with a little limp but I am building strenght and muscle everyday. I will always walk with a slight limp because my leg is a tad shorter. At my foster home I was a little shy until I got to know you, I am good with dogs kids but no cats please I like to chase them. I liked it outside but I like to be inside more laying on the couch watching TV. I liked having a doggie door that was the best.
Berkley was seen for a few days down the road wandering around the rail road tracks. Someone was finally able to catch him and brought him to AAR. He was taken to the vet and xrays showed he had an old injury. looks like his leg was broke and healed back the wrong way.
Berkley had his surgery and it ended up costing
$1,256.00 and still counting. They had to break his bone and re align it and put steel plates and screws in to hold it together. He is recoverying in a foster home but not as nice as we hoped because he is still in tremendous pain His incision is still draining and he has to have his splint changed every three days and have hydro therapy foe a couple of weeks. Don't worry though he is being spoiled and well taken care of. His favorite thing to do is at bed time he gets to sleep comfortably in his foster moms bed.
Up dates will be given on his progress.

Update as of 1-10-10 I am back in a foster home. I am not getting enough exercise at the shelter. I need to run and play more to build up the muscle in my leg. I would like to find a forever home if you are interested in meeting me. I am a little shy at first until I know I can trust you. I am good with other dogs and kids, I don't seem to be bothered by cats.I know how to use the doggie door so I go outside to potty.

My name is Daisy, I was homeless and living under a Mobil Home off Boudreaux Rd in Tomball with my 3 babies. People felt sorry for me and were feeding me but I could not stay for much longer. That is when I was picked up by AAR 5-3-10 and put into a foster home. Come to find out something is wrong with my back left leg. I think it is broke so I will be going in for xrays 5-18-10. If you would like to help with my bill stay tuned for up dates.
